The very first kimono I ever designed is still my most prized possession… it’s falling apart at the seams but I still love it. My 2 year old son Texasalways puts a smile on my face. Whether on vacation, at a festival, or any place that opens the most vibrant, expressive part of you, Spell helps. Spell taps into the sense of nostalgia, beauty, and freedom that complements the female spirit. I never go anywhere without a Spell bag and my sunnies. Spell is a modern, Bohemian fashion brand inspired by far-away places, vintage treasures, and childhood memories. The best beauty tip I’ve learned is before you head out on a Friday evening go for a swim in the ocean – instant beach hair. My favorite book is my Kate Moss book – So far I have 2 copies each with different covers, and plan to collect one of each cover. Growing up I was always playing imaginary games with my sisters. In my next life I want to come back as a Stevie Nicks impersonator.īeauty is sandy, sun kissed skin and beach hair. If I was a character in a movie I would be the best friend of the lead character – not too much attention on me pretty please! Trying to do too many things at the same time is my biggest weakness… Sometimes that results in chaos and sometimes in genius. To get inspired I listen to music (or watch Sex in the City) while sketching/scrap-booking in my visual diary. My go to outfit is One Teaspoon shorts and a vintage tee, accessorized with Spell. My favorite album of all time is Tusk by Fleetwood Mac… or Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks. I will always be thankful to my sister Elizabeth who moved here to Byron to join me in this wild ride! I went to college in Melbourneand studied fashion design. I am a fashion designer for my own label Spell & the Gypsy Collective, and I’ve been working here since I started the label 8 years ago. We caught up with one half of the sister duo behind the label for this week’s style file. They do that hippie-chic so well, with a modern rodeo kind of feel, and you can always expect to see feathers, turquoise, and leather peeking out from somewhere in their designs. The girls behind the Spell and the Gypsy Collective line are cool, creative, and show a style that’s so fitting to their eclectic designs that you can’t help but be intrigued by the fringe, the patterns, and the layers and layers of accessories.
